5th Jan 

Photographic Films of Eastbourne

Mike Hymans will be showing us a DVD of Sussex made from clips of amateur cine film.

2nd Feb 

Life in Eastbourne, 1939-1950

Paul Jordan will tell us how, local, national and international events affected the fictitious Woods family in Eastbourne between 1939 and 1950.

2nd Mar 

Eastbourne’s East End

Alan Wenham will speak about a part of the town which is very different from the splendour west of the pier.

6th Apr 

AGM followed by a talk “Eastbourne’s Prehistoric Enigma – enclosures on the downs” by Katherine Buckland will be talking about the recent archaeological dig and the information that has been uncovered.

4th May 

Ocklynge Cemetery

Kevin Gordon will talk about some of the more interesting graves in our local cemetery.

1st Jun 

Lowther’s Lambs at the Boars Head

Dr Chris Kempshall will examine the events and context of the Battle of the Bar’s Head and its effect on Sussex.

6th Jul 

Talk and Walk around Old Town

Helen Warren will be taking us on a guided walk around Eastbourne’s Old Town.

3rd Aug 

Unfortunately our speaker booked for 3 August has had to cancel so in her place Helen Warren will be talking about the history of Eastbourne schools. The meeting is at Ocklynge School, which will feature in her talk, together with pictures of Mr Clark’s famous productions!

Jayne Shrimpton will be giving an illustrated presentation on the family photographs that survive from WW1, including war work and women at war – why were they taken and what was their function? (She will not be talking about military uniforms)

Mad Jack Fuller

Geoff Hutchinson will introduce us to, in costume and in the first person, the eccentric Georgian Squire of Brightling who will tell us the story of his life

5th Oct 

Willpower

Meryl Catty will be talking about wills, which are all too often overlooked in family history research. She will explore how wills were made and the family history information that they can provide.

2nd Nov 

Penny for the Guy

Judy Davies will tell us the story of the gunpowder plot, leading to the customs we follow today.

7th Dec 

Christmas Party with entertainment provided by Bob Mummary.
