At the next meeting on Thursday 1st March Family Roots is delighted to welcome back local historian, Ian Everest, who is talking about The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Ian’s interest in this organisation started 35 years ago when he travelled to Northern France to visit the grave of his great uncle. Like many others who have visited the war cemeteries, he developed a great respect and admiration for the high standards of their presentation and maintenance. The talk will look at the origins of the Commission, the work involved in constructing the cemeteries and how it manages to inspire new generations to honour those who fell for their country.
Unfortunately our speaker booked for 3 August has had to cancel so in her place Helen Warren will be talking about the history of Eastbourne schools. The meeting is at Ocklynge School, which will feature in her talk, together with pictures of Mr Clark’s famous productions!
