‘Fall In, Ghosts’ – We explore the story of Cooden’s First World War training camp through the results of recent archaeological investigations. Opened in 1914, the camp trained thousands of soldiers, including men of the Royal Sussex Regiment, before later serving as a Canadian Red Cross hospital. Excavations carried out in 2024–25 have uncovered a wealth of artefacts and features, providing a fascinating insight into the daily lives of those who lived and trained at this once-bustling military camp.
